I dealt with constipation for as long as I can remember. For years, I assumed that was simply how my body worked and learned to live around it, even though I constantly felt sluggish, heavy, bloated, and uncomfortable.
As things got worse, I did what so many people do when they’re trying to feel better:
I cut out gluten, then sugar, then dairy. I tried different diets, cleanses, and supplements. I went vegan for a couple of years, convinced that if I could just eat “clean enough,” my digestion would finally improve.
I spent thousands of dollars on colonics, spas, and retreats, hoping the next thing would finally make a difference. I drank the juices, took the supplements, and came home hopeful that this time things would be different. But eventually, I would end up right back where I started.
At some point, laxatives became a regular part of my life just so I could have a bowel movement. I used them for years because I didn’t know what else to do.

I also did everything I was supposed to do medically. I saw specialists, had scans, and ran the standard lab work. And I kept hearing some version of the same thing:
The problem was, I had already done those things. Many times. On paper, everything looked fine. But I didn’t feel fine.
My digestion was unpredictable. My weight kept going up and down, and getting dressed became its own source of stress. I was exhausted and relied on coffee just to get through the day.
My skin was another constant struggle. I had severe eczema, especially on my hands. The skin would crack and bleed until it looked like open wounds. Even washing my hands with soap and water could burn.
I dealt with poor sleep and would sometimes feel anxious, irritable, and completely drained. I kept trying to exercise because I knew it was good for me, but every time I started, I felt even more depleted. Eventually I would stop because it felt like my body simply didn’t have anything left to give.
I had gained weight and was so bloated that someone I hadn’t seen in a while congratulated me on being pregnant.
I remember freezing, forcing a smile, and saying nothing because correcting them felt too painful and embarrassing in that moment. I walked away crushed.
Even people close to me told me the weight gain was simply part of getting older and that this was how my body was going to be now and I needed to accept it. But something in me couldn’t accept that this was just my new normal.
I knew there had to be more to the story.
The hardest part was how much of it I dealt with quietly. Gut issues aren’t exactly something you bring up in everyday conversation, so while everyone around me seemed to move through life normally, I was constantly thinking about how I felt, what I ate, whether my clothes would fit, and whether my body would cooperate.
I kept experimenting with food, supplements, exercise, and different routines, but most of it felt like trial and error. I worried about wasting more time and money on things that wouldn’t work, and underneath it all was the fear that I might never feel better.

For the first time, I started looking at my health differently. Instead of seeing constipation, eczema, fatigue, weight changes, poor sleep, and everything else as separate problems, I began to understand how interconnected the body really is.
My results showed imbalances in my gut, hormones, and minerals, and suddenly so muchof what I had been experiencing started to make sense.
Once I had a personalized plan based on my results, things began to change. It wasn’t another extreme diet or a quick fix. It was a personalized approach that took into account what was showing up in my results, along with nutrition, lifestyle, stress, and changes I could realistically maintain.
Having a regular bowel movement, something most people probably don’t think twice about, felt huge after struggling for so many years.
and I lost weight as a side effect of improving my health rather than constantly restricting what I ate.
My hands stopped cracking and bleeding, and washing them no longer felt painful.
I wasn’t relying on coffee just to make it through the day. I stopped constantly craving sugar.
I wasn’t relying on coffee just to make it through the day. I stopped constantly craving sugar.
Then something happened that I genuinely never expected.

As I started feeling better, I kept thinking about how many other people were probably doing exactly what I had done. Trying another diet. Buying another supplement. Going to another appointment. Being told their labs look normal. Wondering why they still don’t feel well.
What changed was looking at my health through a different lens and having informationthat allowed for a more personalized approach.
Today, I use functional lab testing alongside a client’s symptoms, health history, lifestyle, and personal story to look for patterns and areas of imbalance that can easily be missed when everything is viewed separately. From there, I create personalized recommendations around nutrition, rest, exercise, stress reduction, and targeted supplementation based on what we find. But one of the most important things I want my clients to gain is understanding.
I want you to know why we are making certain changes rather than simply being handed another list of foods to avoid or supplements to take. When you have spent years trying different things without getting where you want to be, having a clearer picture can change the way you approach your health.
Would you travel more? Exercise again? Feel comfortable making plans without worrying about how you are going to feel? Have more energy for your family, your work, and the things you love?
For years, I thought many of the things I was experiencing were simply something I had to live with. Discovering functional medicine changed the way I looked at my health and changed the direction of my life.
That experience is why I do this work today.
